Get ready for some big-time Broadway entertainment, Tempe!

The biggest hits on the Great White Way are headed to Tempe as part of the just-announced Desert Schools Broadway Across America–Arizona 2017-2018 season!

Broadway blockbusters Hamilton, School of Rock and The King and I will be part of the upcoming season. The lineup will also include Fun Home, Something Rotten!, The Bodyguard, The Color Purple and The Humans. In addition, subscribers can choose to add highly-anticipated engagements of two favorites: Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella and Les Miserables.

FUN HOME
September 5 - 10
The winner of five 2015 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Fun Home is based on Alison Bechdel’s best-selling graphic memoir. This groundbreaking production introduces us to Alison at three different ages, revealing memories of her uniquely dysfunctional family that connect with her in surprising new ways. “Heart-gripping and cathartic, Fun Home occupies the place where we all grew up.” (The New York Times).


SOMETHING ROTTEN!
October 31 - November 5
Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw, Something Rotten! tells the story of brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, two playwrights stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rockstar Will Shakespeare. When a soothsayer foretells the next big thing in theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, the Bottom brothers set out to write the world's very first musical! With its heart on its ruffled sleeve and sequins in its soul, Something Rotten! is an uproarious dose of pure Broadway fun and an irresistible ode to musicals. With book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, Hamilton is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton is the story of America's Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation’s first Treasury Secretary. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway, Hamilton is the story of America then, as told by America now.


THE KING AND I
March 20 - 25, 2018
Set in 1860’s Bangkok, the Lincoln Center Theater production of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s The King and I tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children. Directed by Bartlett Sher and winner of the 2015 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival, The King and I is "too beautiful to miss," according to New York Magazine.

THE HUMANS
May 29 - June 3, 2018
Winner of the 2016 Tony Award for Best Play, The Humans marks the Broadway debut of playwright Stephen Karam, a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist. This new American classic is a hopeful and heart-breaking story in which our modern age of anxiety is keenly observed with humor and compassion during a family’s Thanksgiving dinner. As darkness falls, things begin to go bump in the night as their deepest fears come to light. The angst, anguish and amity of the American middle class are first coaxed—then shoved—into the light in this uproarious, hopeful and heartbreaking play, directed by Tony Award winner Joe Mantello.


SCHOOL OF ROCK
June 18 - 24, 2018
Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star posing as a substitute teacher who turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. This high-octane smash features 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber, all the original songs from the movie and musical theater’s first-ever kids rock band playing their instruments live on stage.
